Creigiau Community Centre Committee
Raising the Roof
Charity No. 1058436

Following a successful campaign by a group of Creigiau residents to raise money for an Adventure Playground on Creigiau Recreation Area, a committee was set up to raise money to build a community centre in the village. This group became a registered charity in 1996 and raised almost £10,000. Our intention was to seek funding from the Lottery and other trust funds. We were very lucky to have the help of a local architect and various plans were drawn up.
An application for funding was made to the Arts Council for a grant to carry out a feasibility study in order to choose between two sites. This grant was turned down because the Arts Council received letters of objection from residents of Creigiau.
The project then became dormant. This was not a new situation however. Twice before, community centres had been planned for the village but had not been built due to objections from residents about the sites.
In the meantime three separate groups were trying to raise money to extend the Sports Pavilion on the recreation field, to build a new Scout Hall and to refurbish the Church Hall.
Two years ago an attempt was made to bring these three projects together under the umbrella of the charity but, owing to difficulties with the Charity Commission and the Church, this was not successful.
The present trustees could not see a way forward and therefore called a public meeting on 25 January 2005 to propose that the charity be wound up and the money raised be divided between the three groups mentioned above.
The decision of the meeting was that if five new trustees cannot be found to take over the running of the charity in the next three months (by 25 April 2005) then the charity should be wound up and the money distributed between CRAMC, the

Show off your Green Fingers

The annual Pentyrch Horticultural Show is a community event designed to provide a showcase for the talents of Pentyrch and surrounding areas in a range of different activities. The show normally takes place in the first Saturday in September at the Village Hall, Maes y Sarn, Pentyrch.
The 2005 show will be held on Saturday, 3rd September.
Vegetable, plant and fruit growers, cooks and bakers, knitters and stitchers, and especially the children, are all encouraged to enter and join in the fun. The various categories within the programme are designed for the broadest appeal and most people will find something they can enter.
The show celebrated its silver jubilee in 2003 with a great number of entries and people continue the community tradition by taking part.
Entry is easy and details of the rules are featured in the programme published in the Summer. As well as providing the details of categories and prizes, the programme gives entry to the show itself.
Entries need to be submitted between 10 am and 11.30 am on the day. The Show opens at 2pm for viewing of the exhibits and the prize giving takes place at 3.30 pm.
If you'd like to get involved or for more information call one of the Pentyrch Horticultural Show committee members: Nella Statham, on 029 20890163; email nella.statham@NTL.com
