Pentyrch Art Group

Pentyrch Art Group continues to flourish,we now have 24 members- and the Group is full at the moment. We have had an interesting year, having had a mixture of lessons and demonstrations, which have been enjoyed by all the members.

We shall be holding our 9th Annual Exhibition at the Village Hall, Pentyrch, on Sunday, May 23rd and we hope to be exhibiting over 100 new paintings. The exhibition is open from 10.00am until 6.00pm and admission is free. There will be a variety of pictures displayed- from landscapes to flower paintings. During the afternoon a painting donated by William Wheeler will be raffled- free refreshments are served during the day.

Several of our members also belong to 'South Wales Art Society', and their paintings are often exhibited at other venues, such as St David's Hall and The Rhondda Heritage Park.

Members are always willing to paint commissions- all we need is a good quality photograph of the subject. For further information contact Anne Peebles, Ann Parsons or Glenys Mullins.

Creigiau Playgroup

Creigiau Playgroup has recently re-registered with the Welsh Care Standards Inspectorate and is now known as Bright Beginnings Playgroup, Creigiau. The playgroup, which caters for children between the ages of 2 and 5 years believe that learning should be fun. Free Play activities and experiences are offered designed to further children's development in the areas of Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Personal and Social Development, Physical development, Creative Development and an introduction to the Welsh language in the Curriculum Cymreig.
To complement the free play activities, at each session children are offered an adult led activity such as music and movement, art and craft, cookery and parachute play. The morning always ends with a story and songs. The aim of the playgroup is to provide a happy relaxed atmosphere, in which children can experiment and learn at their own level, enjoying their new friends and taking new steps of independence, as they feel ready. We believe that the playgroup is a valuable link between home and school/nursery and we aim to prepare children for this important step in their learning experiences.
Alongside the playgroup we also hold a `Toddler Time' on a Monday, during term time, from 10-11.30am. This is aimed at babies and toddlers between 0 and 5 years. The children enjoy playing and meeting new friends, while the grown up's can have coffee and a chat! Various activities such as the home corner, colouring, sticking /dough will be on offer and the morning finishes with an action song session.
The playgroup is a registered charity and relies on parental contributions to assist with the running costs. Fund raising events are held regularly which gives everyone the chance to socialise whilst raising valuable funds for the playgroup.
   The playgroup is open from

Tuesday to Friday mornings from 9.30am to l2 midday. If you would like any further information about the Playgroup or Toddler Time please contact the Playleader - Karen on 029 20891632.

GOOD NEWS COFFEE SHOP

First of all we would like to thank everyone who supported the Coffee Shop in 2003 and we hope to see even more new faces in 2004. At the time of writing we estimate that our efforts have raised approximately £1,200 towards the Church Hall Restoration Fund. Good news indeed we think.
Should any organization or person be interested in having a sales table during a coffee shop we would be happy to welcome them. For more information contact Maureen Moss on 02920 890876.
Creigiau Companions will be manning the sales table again at the March Coffee Shop when you will be able to purchase gifts for Mothering Sunday together with Easter gifts and novelties. In addition there will be lots of things to interest the children and of course prices to suit all pockets.
The Coffee Shop is open on the third Saturday of every month 10 a.m. to 12 noon ALL WELCOME please come and join us.

CITIZEN LITTER PICKERS

Residents in Creigiau have formed a citizen litter pickers group and keep certain areas of Creigiau reasonably clear of dropped litter. At present the group, led by Stewart Reid, concentrates on the A4119 junctions and Cardiff Road up to Parc y Coed.
Wouldn't is be idyllic if we had a team of community litter pickers who would each take "responsibility" for keeping one area of our community reasonably litter free?
If anyone is interested in helping with litter picking in Creigiau, Pentyrch or Gwaelod y Garth contact the Community Council Office.
