Pentyrch Bowling Club

Members of the Pentyrch Bowling Club set off on 17th May for their annual tour, the destination on this occasion being Weymouth and the surrounding district. The Club played three matches, namely against Welworthy (narrowly lost), Greenhill (won) and Castle Carey (heavily lost). Members reflected ruefully that the excellent lunch enjoyed at Castle Carey did not assist their performances in the following match.
The tour proved very enjoyable and was excellently organised by John Berry and Dai Rogers at a very attractive price for members. Sincere thanks to those two and also Jan Berry, Betty and Malcolm Martin and Tim Morgan for their contributions to an excellent tour.
The hospitality and inhouse entertainment provided by the Richmoor Hotel was first rate and our singing of Sospan Fach and Delilah ('Duw they sounded just the same') was memorable.
The Bowling Club welcomes new members. Contrary to popular belief bowls caters for all ages and offers opportunities for the playing of sport in attractive surroundings, to meet new friends and to face new challenges. (How do you cope with being given a bowling lesson by a brilliant ten year old opponent? My only thought was to suggest that he should be doing some homework!)
Anyone wishing to join the Club should contact Alan Parsons (20890490) or Bill Mannington (01443 651090) or Liz Cugley (20891496)

PENTYRCH SHOW
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH 2002

On behalf of the committee of the Pentyrch Horticultural Show, I would like to thank everyone who contributed last year to make the show a success, this includes the exhibitors without whom there would be no show, the judges, local businesses who generously took advertising space and all the people who helped including my fellow committee members.
The Pentyrch Show began in 1979 as a pet show and was expanded around 1982 to encompass horticultural exhibits. The entry of pets into the show was discontinued some years later. Initially exhibitors were restricted to residents of Pentyrch but with declining numbers of entries the show was opened to all. Throughout its history the show has evolved and has adapted to

reflect changes in life styles and has kept abreast of current hobbies and pastimes in addition to the traditional horticultural entries.
The classification of entries is now so diverse that there must be a category for everyone. So why not try a cookery entry, a photograph or perhaps a piece of handicraft ?
Programmes will be available over the next few weeks from Follis Newsagent in Pentyrch so why don't you buy one and enter as many classes as you can. I am sure that with your support this years show will again be of a very high standard and I look forward to seeing you in the Village Hall on September 7th.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!
