Creigiau Circular Walk
A pleasant circular walk of about 3½ miles across fields which can be extended to Pentyrch; mainly level but one climb.
Start: From Creigiau Inn. Go along Station Road passing over two old railway bridge. As you cross the first bridge, look to your left and you will see the remains of the platforms of Creigiau railway station on the Barry to Pontypridd line. The second bridge crosses the former mineral line between Radyr junction and Cross Inn. Where the road bends right opposite the entrance to the quarry follow Heol Pantygored for 50m, then through gate on left, head uphill slightly left towards garden fences. Pass over the stile and turn left, keep broken hedge on left. Pass through gate, cross field, gently uphill to another gate at the top right corner. Through gate and turn left, keep hedge on left, to another gate. Pass through and keep hedge on left, ahead are the houses of Pentyrch. At bottom left of field go through gate and, keeping same direction, across field to gate ahead. Here the walk can extend to Pentyrch by continuing forward.
Pass through gate by stone wall. The ruin that can be seen on left is the remain of Bristol Fach, a large store for leather hides during the 18th century. The hides were imported via Cardiff from Bristol and used to supply shoemakers and saddlers in the area. Turn right passing rough ground on right to climb stile in right corner. Cross road (left for Pentyrch) and climb stile, then straight for approx 80m and pass through gate on left between new

trees. Head for right hand corner of field keeping trees on the right. Find the stile in the fence ahead, climb it and pass through wood to field corner. Climb up to gate and into field, following fence on left to gate in stone wall where at Pentwyn you can see two ruined farm buildings. This area forms part of the former Craig y Parc estate. Turn right on road, downhill passing last house on left, to find a stile on left, beside farm gate. Over stile keep hedge on right and aim ahead to pass the wooded slope on left, keeping electricity posts on right. Pass through gateway and Pant y Caerau Nurseries are ahead. The Nurseries take their name from the iron age encampment on the hilltop.
Just before the houses start, climb stile in fence on right beside gate. Turn ½ right to go across field to the right of the wood to find a stile. Go uphill to top right of field by pole transformer, over stile and turn right into lane and shortly left downhill. Pass house on left, (with iron gates) and search in hedge bank right for stile, just past electricity pole. (about 50m).

Climb stile and cross field keeping fence to wood on right for 80m, then diagonally left, down to find stile in hedge ahead. Cross stile aiming across field through bracken to bottom left corner wood. Above you is the wall of Craig y Parc. Pass through gate into wood and follow bridle path, (which can be muddy) through wood, over old stone arched bridge. At the edge of wood cross stream and go ½ right over rough ground to road. The stream you have just crossed is known as Nant y Glaswg and rises from a spring approximately ½ mile north. Turn right, pass telephone exchange on right then at road junction turn left, (sign post Creigiau ½ mile) gaining pavement on right.
After post box, turn right up stony track and shortly left past 2 storey garage to skirt rear of houses. Pass through metal gate, keep hedge on left, then go ½ left, across field downhill to wood. Through gate turn right onto road and follow it left, round bend along Station Road to start point.
