Tyn y Coed Quarry Planning Application
Oaktree Environmental, on behalf of Mr Barry Cosslett, have submitted an amendment to their planning application for the use of the quarry for Waste Recycling incorporating the use of crushing and screening plant and the associated production of aggregates and other materials, in addition to landfilling and restoration as previously approved. The amendment proposes: + the reduction in the volume of landfill from 70,000m3 to 50,000m3; + restoration of the site to provide a museum of quarry plant and machinery. It is not intended that the quarry will be open to the general public, but will remain private with access provided on request; alteration to the restoration landform to provide a setting for the museum exhibits; + reduction of landfill operations from 7 to 5 years without increase of traffic generation. This would be retained as a maximum of 30 HGV daily trips each way trips and an average of 15 - 20 trips; + widening of Heol Creigiau in two locations to allow further unobstructed passage of HGVs and other vehicles. A third passing place may be possible. The original planning consent gave permission to restore this disused quarry via landfilling with inert waste, profiling and final landscape treatment to agricultural use within two years. No permission was given for a waste transfer station or any crushing and screening activities. Anyone wishing to object or comment on this current proposal particularly with regard to environmental amenity (ie noise and dust) and road safety should write to:- Mr G P Mellor, B.Sc., (Hons), Dip.T.P.,M.R.T.P.I. We had a very successful Pentyrch Horticultural Show on Saturday 8th September. We were very pleased with all the entries particularly with the fruit and vegetables which were a great improvement on last year with a tremendous display. Most categories were well represented and we hope that the excellent attendance at the Village Hall in the afternoon will encourage more people to exhibit next year. Margaret Colenutt

During September our thoughts were with the thousands of people in the United States who were affected by the terrible attacks on their cities. We remember the pain and bereavement that was caused and the effect it will have on families all round the world.
